A warm welcome to our volunteers - Vignir Gudmundsson and Harpa Fönn Sigurjónsdóttir

Vignir and Harpa come from Iceland. These two courageous, young and enthusiastic young fiancées are our first volunteers in the field. They have decided to catapult themselves from the snow (and maybe bankruptcy) to, of all places on earth – the equator! I left them in the middle of the savannah grasslands in early October, a mid such situations as travelling with a live chicken in the same car (seat). Join me in applauding Vignir and Harpa who have made history as the first Icelandics to teach in a school in Soroti and to sit under a tree to discuss agricultural production with farmers. They will be following our projects for 9 months.

Soroti District named one of the poorest in Uganda" an article by Annie Kelly (guardian.co.uk, Tuesday 10 February 2009) Soroti District has one of the highest concentrations of poor people per square kilometre in Uganda, according to new figures from the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBS).
